IMPORTANT — Read our submission guidelines through completely:
Wend received hundreds of submissions for Issue 3, and we anticipate future issues will continue to increase in popularity.
We are excited for the increase in interest to our publication! However, the increase in submissions means that we no longer have the capacity to reach out to contributors who don’t follow submission guidelines the first time around. A failure to submit per our guidelines means we cannot consider your submission. However, If you have any questions about submission guidelines, or if you’d like clarification on anything, please feel free to reach out to our email.
Wend only accepts original poetry and art. We do not read fiction.
Additionally, we are not taking art & poetry collaborations at this time because they are extremely difficult to format. If you have a poem you would like to submit with a photo, please send them in different files and if accepted Wend editors will make sure they are published together.
Poetry and Visual Submission File Guidelines:
For poets:
Send a maximum of five poems in a .doc or .docx file titled “Poetry _Your Name” (for example — poetry_ JohnSmith) to wendpoetry@gmail.com. No PDF files, please. Be sure to include your name in the subject line of the email.
We cannot consider files that contain more than five poems. This is out of fairness to our readers, editors, and the other contributors. If your submission contains more than five poems, we will not consider it. Additionally, you may only submit five poems per submission period — in other words, if you submit to Issue 1, you may only submit five poems in total for Issue 1.
For artists:
If sending art, please send up to five high-resolution files to wendpoetry@gmail.com and include your name somewhere in the email’s title.
We cannot consider submissions that contain more than five pieces of art. This is out of fairness to our editors and other contributing artists. If your submission contains more than five pieces of art, we will not consider it. Additionally, you may only submit a total of five pieces of art per submission period — in other words, if you submit five art pieces to Issue 1, you may not submit five more until Issue 2 submissions open.
Content:
Themed and non-themed content is accepted. We have no specific aesthetic but welcome the adventurous and new.
We will not include poems that are racist, sexist, homophobic, classist, ableist, or otherwise intolerant of people. We hope to encourage a diverse readership and inclusive literature.
Simultaneous Submissions:
Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please let us know prior to our contact if your work is accepted elsewhere. We do not accept pieces that have been published before — including in social media posts, blogs, or print format.
Previous Submissions:
If you’ve submitted before and have been accepted to our latest issue, please wait a full year before submitting again. If you submitted but were not published in our latest issue you may resubmit for the next issue.
If you’ve been solicited for guest readership or submissions, you may apply to the next submission period.
Sam and Denise look forward to reading your work.
